Hearing evaluating is carried out to eliminate hearing reduction as being a factor that is contributing personal interaction problems. Reading evaluating is the Scope of practise in Speech-Language Pathology (ASHA, 2016b) . Referral for a complete audiologic assessment is essential in the event that person fails the hearing evaluating.

The hearing aids need to be inspected by an audiologist to ensure that they are in working order, and the aids should be worn by the individual during screening (and during comprehensive assessment, when recommended) if the individual wears hearing aids.
